UK visitor visa for freelancers: self-employed evidence

Prepare UK visitor visa self-employed evidence by connecting actual work, invoices and bank receipts. Use a worksheet to explain variable income and distinguish business turnover from personal funds.

The tables, references and worksheets are VisaPilot preparation tools, not a government mandatory checklist.

UK visitor visa self-employed evidence: where to start

Describe what you actually do, who pays you and how your trip will be funded. The official supporting-document guide includes business registration or recent invoices as examples of ongoing self-employment evidence. Choose records that fit your circumstances; this is not a fixed bundle for every freelancer.

Connect work to payment

Start with a recent genuine project. Link the agreement or order, invoice, payment record and relevant bank entry. Record timing differences, platform fees, partial payments and currency conversion. An unpaid invoice shows a request for payment; it does not establish that money is available for your trip.

Check itemRecord
Activity and trading nameDescribe the actual service; match the form and trading records
Invoice period and clientLink the invoice to its project and identify paid or unpaid amounts
Gross receipts and expensesRecord the period, currency and income basis without mixing turnover and profit
Personal transfer and account ownerIdentify the account owner and trace funds available for the trip

Separate business receipts from personal funds

Company turnover, account balance and personal income measure different things. Identify the account holder and distinguish client receipts, business expenses, transfers to yourself and accessible savings. Use actual records to explain the income basis entered in the application. Do not describe every company receipt as personal earnings.

Work or project | Evidence reference | Payment date | Bank entry | Difference to explain
[Actual service] | [Contract C01 / invoice I01] | [Date or unpaid] | [B01 page/entry] | [Fees, instalment or delay]

Handle gaps and prepare the final check

If you have no business registration, describe your actual working arrangement and available records without inventing a company or employer. Where a document cannot be obtained, record the gap and check the instructions relevant to your application. Compare your name, activity, income period and trip dates across the form, originals and translations.

Frequently asked questions

Do freelancers need to invent an employment letter?

No. Describe your actual work and use genuine records relevant to that arrangement.

Is a business bank balance the same as personal savings?

No. Identify who owns and can access the funds, and explain transfers using records.

Does irregular income automatically mean refusal?

A worksheet cannot predict a decision. Describe the pattern accurately and support the explanation with available evidence.
