UK visitor visa parent or spouse sponsorship documents

For a parent or spouse funding your UK visit, organise who pays, what they cover, how support is provided and evidence of the relationship. Check the applicant and sponsor files together.

The worksheets and templates below are VisaPilot preparation suggestions, not a universal mandatory document list.

Map parent or spouse support before collecting files

The official sponsor section covers the support arrangement, relationship and sponsor finances, plus lawful UK presence where relevant. A parent living outside the UK and a spouse providing UK accommodation involve different evidence. Sponsorship does not remove the need to explain the applicant’s own circumstances.

Review both sides of the arrangement

Check that the form, sponsor note, relationship evidence and account records describe the same arrangement. A marriage or birth record may support a relationship when relevant; do not treat every suggested document as mandatory for every applicant. Translate submitted documents outside English or Welsh under the official translation instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Does my sponsor have to live in the UK?

The sponsor guidance covers support from another person and asks for lawful UK presence evidence where applicable. Describe where your sponsor lives and the actual support arrangement.

Does a sponsor replace my own documents?

No. Organise your own circumstances and the sponsor evidence together so the application and support arrangement can be understood.

Is a sponsorship letter a guarantee of approval?

No. A support note explains the arrangement; the decision depends on the application and evidence as a whole.

Official sources and review date

Official instructions take priority. Preparation support does not decide eligibility or guarantee approval.
